The Giant Axe looked immaculate today bathed in tropical sunshine as the Dolly Blues gave Glossop the chop. The ground is an excellent one and is overlooked by Lancaster Castle and if they trimmed the foliage even better views of the castle could be enjoyed. Good catering , warm welcome and a wonderful main stand all complimented to an excellent tick.
The Dolly Blues played some enjoyable football today and fully deserved the victory. It was the complete opposite to the performances they produced last season. Glossop were not at their best today and had little threat up front. Why they persisted in pumping long balls up to the smallest player on the park i have no idea.
He was in Dolly's No5's pocket all afternoon.

Decided to visit the Lancaster Medieval Castle which was built around a thousand years ago for the first time but sadly it was clad in scaffolding and surrounded with hundreds of Harry Potter fans ! Just my luck !

Great day out

As soon as the draw was made this fixture caught my eye. Mainly because its a ground i have wanted plus it is a fixture of teams from different leagues. Northern League supporters always follow their team in good numbers and today was no different as three coach loads came down to Lancashire for this FA Cup tie.

The ground is tricky to find and if you follow the sat nav it will take you down some winding country lanes , past an allotment. Not until you finally reach the ground are you fully convinced there is a football ground at all !. But once you arrive life is good again because the welcome is very friendly and the setting is lovely. The place was busy today with a cricket match taking place on the adjoining field and Fairground rides in full swing in the field behind.

The game itself was always competitive and held the attention throughout. When Dunston took a 5th minute lead it looked to be the first of many and when the scored a 2nd it looked game over. But Barlick never gave up and kept plugging away and finally got their reward with a penalty which was duly dispatched. The tide was now turning and Barlick kept pressing and got an equaliser and could have even snatched a winner in injury time. Barlick deserved the replay if only for their positive attitude throughout. But i doubt they are looking forward to a 220 mile midweek trip to the north east.

All in all a very enjoyable day out in sunny Lancashire.
